Michael Kelley, a student at Wichata East High School who has Down Syndrome and Autism, has been ordered not to wear the varsity letter his mother bought him. Michael plays on the school's basketball team for students with special needs, and his mother bought the letter to recognize this fact.
Now the school principal has told Michael's mother to stop him from wearing the letter after the parent of another student complained. The other parent argued that since Michael's team is not a varsity team, he was not eligible to wear a letter.
I must confess that the varsity system is foreign to me, so I really don't see what the other parent's problem is. To my mind is sounds like someone hidebond to the rules at best, or a bigot at worse.
