Fucking flooding. Every damn option to get deep into South County or Jefferson County is fucked up with flooding. Good fucking luck getting to Fenton, High Ridge, etc. Eureka is screwed from the flooding. I feel so bad for all the people who have their homes or businesses damaged/ruined by this.
After almost 2 hours of commuting, I still wasn’t home. But I was near a Mexican restaurant. Welp, time to stop for margaritas and a quesadilla. 90 minutes later I left, and the traffic was just as bad. Worse on Lindbergh because of how 55 south is deteriorating.
Want to take interstate 44? NOPE CLOSED. Highway 30? CLOSED. Highway 141? CLOSED. Want to go across town? HAHAHAHA. Lindbergh was a mess. 270 was the 9th Circle of Hell. Baumgartner and Telegraph are closed. Jeffco Blvd, Byrne’s Mill, 21, 94, MM, 109, all closed in places.
Fenton Water Treatment Plant is down, spewing sewage into the river. High Ridge Water Plant is down, so that part of JeffCo has no water. Missouri American Water is asking everyone to conserve water because they are worried about storm sewer backflow ruining everything. I have some bottled water as a back-up, but I plan to rely on wine and diet soda should this come to pass.
West Alton, Portage Des Sioux evacuated in North area. The levees will probably not hold there. They are small towns, but still.
And now interstate 55 is down to 2 lanes at Meramec Bottom Rd, with Missouri Department of Transportation saying probably all Jefferson County Meramec River crossings will be closed by morning. Water still rising at the highway. No idea how they plan on safely diverting people around it. There’s basically nothing left. And traffic is backed up in I-55 for miles northward. I have no clue what that redirect will be. There’s no way to go north and take 255 into Illinois and then go south to pick up the next bridge and go north on 55, it’s down in Ste. Genevieve. Can’t detour to 141 of Jeffco Blvd, both are already closed for flooding.
(Also, WHY THE FUCKING FUCK ARE SO MANY HIGHWAY EXCHANGES BELOW GROUND LEVEL AND NEAR THE FUCKING MERAMEC RIVER??!!! Missouri, why you gotta be so stupid in your planning?)
tl;dr if you live in Jefferson County, you’re probably not going anywhere tomorrow. Happy New Year’s Eve.
