There’s been a lot of chatter about Harper Lee’s book lately, and lamenting over Atticus Finch turning out to be a racist. It’s taking well deserved attention away from Ta~Nehisi Coates new book, “Between the World and Me,” which is written as a letter to his teen age son.

I have learned so much from him over the past few years. He’s able to put his incredible mind on paper in such a way that makes me feel like i’m inside his experience. He looks the problem of racism in this country square in the face and tells us bout it. I can’t look away. He’s brought me to tears many times.

He was on Fresh Air today. I love listening to him speak. I love the way his mind works. I love how by telling of his personal experiences, he seems to make them universal to black people in America. He also fills me with sadness, and inspires me to do & be better.

Here are some links. Edit: He is a frequent guest on The Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC. If you want to hear him speak, I’ve included a link to some shows. Edit 2: badachie rightfully pointed out that I didn’t link to any of his writing. I can’t get her comment to link here, so find her comment. She provides the links to some great writing.
