Talk of the Future

What are your goals/hopes/dreams for the next year?

Lately there’s been some talk of past and current events that have been shitty. Who amongst us hasn’t had a shitty spell? While I might be an IRL grumpy cat, I’m also pretty optimistic because my mind always moves to the future which I do have control over.

I think it would be a fun, maybe even motivating exercise to discuss what we hope to do and achieve over the next year or so. I’ll give you my top three, in order of priority:

1. Getting more schooling.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to put a bit of cash from each paycheck into my TFSA, so hopefully by this time next year I’ll have enough bank to apply for school for January 2015 (ugh, that sounds so far away!).. I’ll be going the part time online route since I need my 9-5 to eat and such. I’m still not 100% sure what I want to go for but for a while I’ve been thinking about project management. Earlier this week, though, I saw this video of Marion Cotillard’s publicist shutting it down. I think this could be a good fit for me since I thrive under short bursts of pressure, I love saying no to people, I would love a job where I could travel and I understand human nature pretty well (which is to say that I can be manipulative when I feel it’s necessary). I just have no idea how to go about becoming a publicist and it seems like it could be really cut throat. I might be up for that, not sure yet.

2. Running my first 5k.

I started running early in the summer and am now getting comfortable with running in the 5k range. Living in Canada and whatnot, it’s hard to run outside in the winter and I don’t have access to a gym. From Christmas until early March, I expect to plateau a bit with my ‘training’ but I’m hoping that mid-spring, Biggie Talls and I will be able to do our first 5k. If that goes well, I’m going to try to arrange a charity run for my office to run in. My bosses are awesome and would certainly at least make shirts for us. We have a pretty fit office here so I think we could get a dozen or so people on board.

3. Going to BC (maybe)

Biggie has family in British Columbia and one of those cousins got engaged a couple of months ago. I’m not sure of their timeline and I don’t know if they’re having the kind of wedding where they’d invite family from Ontario but fuck would I love to go to BC and Talls family wedding.

What are your personal/professional/whatever ideas for the future?
