But no matter what you do, THANK YOU again and again, wonderful community, for doing something, whether it is reading this, spreading the word about adoption, resources for adoption, or telling our story about writing the down payment check before the help of additional additions to the GoFundMe campaign that helps with the money it takes to pay the adoption agency that is going to help the cats who belong to the parents who want to adopt the kid that GT raised.

OK, in plain speak: The Captain and I have written our down payment check to Lifetime Adoptions and have secured our first grant to help us pay for adoption. We still need to raise about $12k in grants, loans, savings, and donations within six months to continue moving forward. If you can and want to donate, there are no words available or hugs hard enough to express how much every single penny means to us to realize this dream.

I know many people would ask us why we are starting the process without having the full $20k upfront, and all I can say is, "Did you have $20k ready in the bank when your kid was born?" The truth is, we have the money for the down payment, a grant became available, and if we wait until everything is perfect, it will never happen. This is as close to perfect timing as we're going to get, so we seized the opportunity.

Regardless of how you feel about how I'm going about raising and researching money for growing my family, please take a minute to learn about adoption and all the wonderful opportunities it provides to parents like us, children of all ages, and to birth mothers.

For an exact breakdown of expenses, please see our GoFundMe page, and feel free to ask questions here!

Extra special thanks to Afro coming up with that title - it made me laugh so hard I scared my cats. Always a good quality in a title.

Pre-empt question/answer: We know foster to adopt is subsidized by the state and will not cost us anything to adopt, with the exception of a home study. After much discussion, we have both decided that is not a route we feel emotionally and financially prepared for, as most kids in the foster system come in sibling sets, are older, and require much more time, attention, and specialized care than first time parents like us can really provide, practically. It is a route we will travel at some point in the future.
