I feel like a huge tool saying this, but I finally read (listened to) the first book in this series, Nine Princes in Amber. This is one of my best friend's favorite series (really, her whole family), and I can't believe I put it off this long, because it is SO GOOD! The individual books themselves are really short though, so I've got to get my hands on the second one ASAP.
Anyone else read these books?
I'm working my way through a couple of older fantasy/science fiction series.
The Book of the New Sun (on book 4). I have mixed feelings about this series. On the one hand, I love the world building and the combination of science and fantasy about this series. On the other hand, I sometimes really hate the main character. He just comes off as incredibly tool-ish at times.
Oh I love this girl so much, she is my everything. Hold on, gotta go bang this hot chick.
Really? There is SOOO much unnecessary banging in this series.
Some of you might be aware that Stephen King's sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, was just released. I just finished it a couple of days ago. I really appreciate that you can still hear Stephen King's signature style so clearly, even though it feels like he's grown up. He talks a little about it himself. It has been 30 years since the original was published, but he's no longer battling his own demons (alcoholism), and he basically litters the text with AA support group slogans. All in all it's very enjoyable, which kind of goes without saying here.
I'm also still in the middle of Book 5 of Game of Thrones, but that's neither here nor there.
I'm just about to start Oryx and Crane, Book 1 in Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam series. I've never read it before, but I've heard it's amazing so I'm excited about it.
What are y'all reading right now? Any thoughts on those mentioned, or suggestions for what isn't?
Here's something awesome to entice you.
