That’s the title of this piece I just saw on Slate. The opening sentence reads “The Democrats will now control next to nothing above the municipal level,” and I was surprised to realize how mind-bendingly obvious this was. Republicans control the House, Senate, and now the Presidency, plus a large majority of the governorships and state legislatures, plus who knows how many seats they’ll pick up in the Supreme Court.

What seems almost funny in retrospect is how I took it practically as an article of faith that it was the Republican party that was on the ropes, that they were the ones failing to adapt to a changing world, and they were just locked into a downward spiral of electoral futility. Well, I used to believe that, but now anyone with eyes and a brain can see how the pundits got that shit entirely backwards. Not sure why this is such a newsflash to me -- hindsight is definitely 20/20.

Who’s going to own this fuckup? I’m ready to start casting some blame, starting with all these highly paid political super genius types that really don’t know shit and can’t deliver a god damned thing. And thanks, party leadership, for your email scandals, where the DNC chair has to fall on her sword and resign over biased and unethical support for one candidate, and then it turns out that her replacement was just as biased and unethical and the whole primary process was dirty as fuck. Not like that was embarrassing at all.
