I don't know if anybody else has commented on this, but the death of Lauren Bacall means the death of the last living member of the original Rat Pack, the one that inspired the more famous one who terrorized Vegas in the 1960s.
Centered around Humphrey Bogart and Bacall, the mock social club met in their Holmby Hills home, and included Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Sid Luft, Swifty Lazar, Nathaniel Benchley, David Niven, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, George Cukor, Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, and Jimmy Van Heusen. Nat King Cole, Mickey Rooney and Cesar Romero were "visiting memebrs." Probably the most badass group of celebrities ever assembled. Bacall allegedly gave them their name after some came back from Vegas and she said "you look like a goddamn rat pack!"
Romanoff's, the restaurant where Bogie and Bacall would eat lunch every day (Bogie would order French toast and whiskey) is now an Yves St. Laurent store. Things change, but that doesn't mean we can't remember them.
