And not just in the military. I hate to agree with Republicans on anything, ever, for any reason, but seriously, some of the stuff both the federal AND state governments do (even moderately-sort-of-reasonably-competent states like Maryland) just boggles the mind at times. Case in point: I've owed Maryland money related to my 2010 taxes that I've been paying back slowly for a while now. This next month we're finally hitting the very last payment I owe them. I've had direct deposit set up since moment one...

...and yet they still feel the need, EVERY SINGLE MONTH, to send me a bill with an enclosed envelop and a request for payment by check. Literally every single month. I...just...no.

I want to stress again that I LIKE government โ€” competent government, such as the people who handle the Maryland Unemployment Appeals process (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH). Everyone else feel free to share their "ways in which government can be hilariously stupid and/or nonsensical" stories.
