Hello from quarantine day 12! The finish line is SOOOOO CLOSE, but then we walk right into a Shelter in Place order 😂
I was just thinking about ways to help out local small businesses and people we regularly patronize when things are good. My wife and I are in an extremely privileged position to not only have well paying jobs, but jobs that we’re able to do remotely with good job security. So we’re doing everything we can to try to keep the places we care about going, on top of giving donations to the nonprofits that need it most right now. I’d love to hear some additional ways you’re keeping those around you afloat!
One of my friends worked at a popular restaurant that had to shut down, so I reached out to her and let her know that if she needs any help at all with bills she can reach out to us. She politely declined for now, but the offer still stands. Same goes for another friend who has found herself unemployed.
Our housekeeping company is closed, but they are accepting gift card purchases right now for future cleanings. We’re buying one to give to another friend who is a pediatric nurse.
My hair wizard is legally mandated to shut down until May 1st. She posted about reaching out to the clients she already has on the books to rearrange things. I wasn’t on the books yet (wasn’t looking at doing anything until summer-ish anyway), but I still contacted her and asked if I could buy a gift card/prepay a portion for my appointment right now so she’s not struggling in the meantime.
And I signed up for a CSA, because not only is agriculture still humming along, a lot of their business came from restaurants that are now significantly reduced or shut down. And honestly, I think supporting them is an all around positive.
Any other creative ways you can think to help would be greatly appreciated!
