This image popped up in my facebook feed this afternoon.
The caption underneath the photo says, "A great idea to nurture girls and normalize the (Pediatrician-recommended) practice of breastfeeding? Or a ploy to manipulate girls into becoming wives and moms instead of career-women? Or is it a sexually explicit toy? What do you say, moms?"
Oh, and this comment from the page that shared it, "I think it creates an awareness of breasts in girls that are way too young." An awareness of breasts? Wha?
There wasn't anything even remotely sexual about breastfeeding, at least not to me. When I was nursing my newborn son, my daughter pretended to nurse her baby doll, and I wasn't disgusted or upset. I'm not going to buy one of these, but I'm confused by the outrage over it.
Also, the line in the caption that says "...a ploy to manipulate girls into becoming wives and moms instead of career-women" makes me CRAZY. So we can't be wives and moms AND career women?
ETA: Just realized I didn't add that there are something like 1,200 comments on the post expressing all sorts of shock, awe and disgust about the doll.
