Looks like those abortion restrictions that were snuck into Ohio's budget a few months ago may leave the entire Cincinnati area without a single abortion clinic... with about 2.1 million people living there, it would become the largest metropolitan area in the country without access to safe, legal abortion.
This. Is. Bullshit. I lived in this area for years as a college student. Abortion access was already an issue when I was there... the Planned Parenthood in our small town closed down a few years back (largely due to political opposition, certainly not because of a lack of need). Most students (and a considerable number of low-income local residents) didn't have cars and, living in such a rural place, there was no public transportation that could take you to the closest clinic... the only option was to find a friend or family member who was willing and able to drive you there (multiple times, since Ohio has a mandatory 24 hour waiting period after your initial appointment). That's a lot of hoops to jump through already.
If these clinics in Southwestern Ohio close, women will have to drive for hours to get to the nearest clinic... this will require days off of work or school, lots of money for gas, hotel rooms, etc. and, for those who lack a car, a good enough friend (who happens to have both the necessary car and the necessary free time) to drive them. This would be a near impossible situation for many women in the area to navigate.
You know what... I try to defend you, Ohio. I was born there and I lived the majority of my life there. It's where I met most of the people who are the most important to me and learned almost everything that I know. But... WHAT. THE HELL. OHIO. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. STOP HURTING PEOPLE.
