I attended a vigil for the victims & survivors of the Orlando massacre earlier and I can’t sleep. I’m still processing everything. I hoped the vigil would let me release my emotions and thoughts and tears but I couldn’t find anyone I knew there (it was packed) so I went completely introspective and spent most of my time watching my candle flicker in the wind, protecting the tiny flame with my cupped hand.
There were political speeches and rallying cries and reiterations that islamophobia is not the answer to transphobia/homophobia. Everyone was all about inclusivity but talked about ‘brothers and sisters’ and ‘gay and transgender’ without realizing that their word choices are excluding members of our community.
I feel like this is a turning point for America. I hope it turns the right way.
