A Florida church decided, the day before a man's funeral, to cancel it. The reason? Because the church learned the deceased man was gay. This is not The Onion — this is reality.
Shortly before the man's funeral, the man's obituary was published and mentioned his marriage to another man. Congregants called the pastor, T.W. Jenkins, to complain, and Jenkins decided to cancel the service. According to the man's mother, the pastor of the church told her that holding the service would be "blasphemous".
Jenkins had this to say in his defense:
Based on our preaching of the scripture, we would have been in error to allow the service in our church. I'm not trying to condemn anyone's lifestyle, but at the same time, I am a man of God, and I have to stand up for my principles.
Mr. Jenkins, I hear that churches are wondering why young people are leaving the church and people no longer respect the church. Here's why: we are sick and fucking tired of assholes like you and your congregants using the Bible to try and take away the rights and dignity of our fellow human beings. We're tired of people like you who ask "What What Jesus Do?" and then turn around and do the opposite. We're tired of people like you who forget about the message of love and compassion and instead use our faith as justification for your hatred.
In short, Mr. Jenkins, this is why we can't have nice things!
Oh, by the way, Mr. Jenkins, I hate you and I HATE YOUR ASS FACE!!
