A few weeks back, I posted about the case of Karl Karlsen, accused of murdering his own son for insurance money and also suspected in the death of his first wife 17 years earlier. I had planned to follow the trial, but he pled guilty in a surprise move the day it was set to begin. In a jailhouse interview, he had sworn "I will never plead guilty to this. Not hell or high water will anybody make me plead guilty to this." The minimum sentence for second degree murder is 15 years, but he's in poor health and isn't expected to survive that long. The question now is whether he'll be charged in California for the murder he almost certainly committed there 22 years earlier.
