I just noticed on my work calendar that there's a department potluck this week that I had forgotten about. As a foodie (I hate that word), this is seriously the best/worst time for me.

I love cooking for other people because I rarely get to. But my tastes and the tastes of my coworkers are vastly different. One woman who is in her late 40s eats the diet of a fussy toddler. I don't want to make something I won't eat, but I don't want to make something I'd have to drag a ton of home either. Any ideas?

ETA: I am considering making kabuli pilau, which is a delicious Afghani rice dish with raisins. It's not spicy, but I'm afraid of it being deemed "too exotic".
