I thought it would be nice to share some of our favorite vegetarian and vegan foods and brands. I’ve been a vegetarian for 8 months now, and in that time I’ve found quite a few vegan/vegetarian substitutes and alternatives that I really like. We all know about the more popular brands like Gardein, Field Roast, Beyond Meat, Boca, and Tofurky, but there are plenty of smaller brands getting into the veggie game.

Please share your own favorite vegetarian friendly brands, or any new finds that you’ve come across.

Just - This brand sells vegan mayo, salad dressings, and a few other things that I haven’t tried. Their ranch, cesar, and thousand island dressing tastes so similar to the real thing that it fools my non-vegetarian friends and family. Their mayo is also the closest tasting to regular mayo that I’ve ever tried. I can barely taste the difference.

Earth Grown - This is Aldi’s line of vegetarian and vegan food. They sell “chicken” patties in bbq, buffalo, and regular. They carry at least 8 different veggie burgers as well as soy burgers. They also carry 3 different flavors of meatless meatballs, vegan hotdogs, vegan Italian sausage, and vegan cream cheese style spread. While they don’t have it at my store, they sell vegan mozzarella style shreds.

Butler Soy Curls - Soy curls are another alternative to seitan, tofu, and meat substitutes. Soy curls can be bought on Amazon, or directly from their website. They work great in almost any recipe that calls for strips of chicken.

Halo Top - In the last year they’ve come out with a few flavors of vegan ice cream. While not all the flavors are great, there are a few that are really good. Peanut butter cup, and oatmeal are my favorite.

Violife - Best vegan cheese I’ve ever had was the mozzarella style from Violife. I first had it in Iceland and ate it almost daily on that trip. I haven’t ventured out to get it since I’ve been back home, but it’s sold in speciality shops throughout the US.

Don Lee Farms - Costco started carrying these veggie burgers a few months ago and they are so good. They look like they are made of beef, and taste awesome. While they don’t taste just like regular meat, they are a solid choice when you want to get close to that “real” hamburger feeling.

Earth Balance - In the past I’ve only tried their vegan butter, but recently I’ve come across their vegan cheddar crackers. The crackers are quite good, and I look forward to trying more of their stuff.
