Has anybody noticed these on funeral home websites? There’s a link that invites you to light a virtual candle on someone’s obituary page page as a gesture of support and to help cover the costs of keeping the page up as a perpetual memorial to the deceased.
Ok, fair enough, but to light one of their virtual candles for 1 month is $10! $20 gets you a year, and $50 keeps the candle lit perpetually. Feels like a cash grab on a family at a vulnerable time. It’s not like someone’s obit page is taking up a tonne of space on their servers.
Seems to me if you want to make sure their obit stays online, put it on their Facebook and memorialize the page.
