My bosses have decided to give all salaried employees 3 paid volunteer days/year (in addition to vacation/sick time). I know it was in response to the flooding around the rest of our state and people itching to be able to go help their friends and family members; it’s not limited to what kind of volunteering it is, though, so when this passes, the policy remains.

This was inspired by a newer employee who’s sister was in town to help with flood relief - her company, based in Portland, has this policy, so my bosses immediately decided to copy it.

I knew this was in the works so I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it or not around here. But it became official today. I don’t know if there is a tax write-off there but it’s nice because they are essentially donating our time.
