We Beseech Thee O Kinja Gods!

So, as much as we love to whine about Kinja, most of us spend a fair amount of time here anyway, and I started thinking about what it would take for me to STOP complaining. I'm mostly acclimated to nuKinja now through force of habit, but there's still a few tweaks I'd make if I could.

I know the Kinja team is always lurking so I thought I'd put together a list of features I would love for Kinja to have. Here they are in no particular order:

Private Messaging: Please. For the love of all that is holy and just, can we please have private messaging? I beseech thee O Kinja Gods! Being able to chat privately would make clearing up misunderstandings SO much easier. And faster. I weirdly also think it would keep commenters more accountable, but I'm probably kidding myself.

Tagging: I can give or take this one, but I'd love to be able to mention other users in comments a la twitter. It would be an easy way to rope in other commenters to a discussions we think they might be interested in.

Kinja Directory: With the advent of Kinja blogs, the kinja universe is VAST. There are too many kinjas. Or rather, I cannot keep track of all the kinjas. It would be AMAZING if we could have a regularly updated list of all the "official" subblogs (including the ones that aren't attached to a site like CLT and CRT) as well as maybe a "best of" or "featured" list where regular kinja users could try to get their writing featured? Kind of like a "blogs of note this week" kind of thing.

My Kinja Hompage: I frequent a few of the main blogs and a LOT of the subblogs, but often, I forget to check a few because there's no indication of how to get there unless you already know the kinja exists. I'd love to be able to customize a kinja landing page where I can designate all the kinjas I want to keep track off. I know that you can technically "follow" kinjas in private view, but it's not really conducive to actually reading anything, plus it includes comments from users you follow as opposed to just posts from actual, established blogs. Think of the most viewed tabs when you open the Google or Safari windows. Something like that is what I'm thinking.

Kinja Search: You can go to any Gawker site and search for whatever you like, but I'd LOVE a kinja wide search option. A lot of the different main blogs cover the same content from different perspectives in really interesting ways, but you'd never know unless you stumbled upon it. I regularly read io9 now, but the only reason I found it is because it was crossposted to Jezebel. I'd love to be able to just search "Game of Thrones" in Kinja on Monday morning, and come up with all the varied takes on the latest episode, including ones that were written by "ordinary" Kinja users. A lot of us are pretty awesome and the analysis that some people come up with for some of my favourite shows is brilliant. I don't want to miss it just because I happened not to check their Kinja.

Comment Separation for Retops: It seems like most people prefer to just share a post from another kinja rather than retop it, but when they do, the comments generated from that retop are situated under the comments of the original post. I'd love for there to be some way to make the retop comments separate from the architecture of the original post.

Anyway, that's all I can think of so far. If you have any more ideas, stick them in the comments. Perhaps if we raise our voices together in praise, the Kinja Gods will bless up with a better site. Feel free to share this post around to which other subblogs you like. The more feedback the better I guess.
