And I just came across this on NPR. The story takes photos from the site Fed-Up, where students submit pictures of their lunches (I don't think they are all district-provided meals) and the site offers tips like "ask the lunch workers if all the vegetables must be canned, and email your district to request more fresh vegetables." I don't know what kind of reception that'd get, but I'm cynical enough to think that if a student is motivated enough to ask for more fresh veggies, the district probably won't do anything. And it takes quite an effort to get a lot of kids fired up about fresh lunch vegetables.
