I got a bee in my bonnet and decided I should look into PhD programs.
I did some research, found a program that I am qualified for - 99% likelihood of acceptance- that truly piques my interest. Of course it is a frivolous specialty in my general field, but not something I can see ever really using to advance. I JUST LIKE IT. (Confession: I already have a frivolous MA. I went back and got a second practical MA later because frivolous was frivolous.)
Dissertation research and writing - I would rather pull out my fingernails with pliers, but the program is interesting so, maybe I could survive. I mean I survived a year eating nothing but SlimFast bars and Thin Mints, so how bad could it be?
At this point I’ve half talked myself into it. Oh, wait, how long am I on the hook for working full-time and completing said PhD? Minimum of 3 1/2 years, max allowance of 5 years. Damn. I was hoping for 2 years, 3 max. Ehhhh. And what does it cost. . .
