As a wee young one circa kindergarten I loved singing essentially two lines from a song I liked. Actually I always thought it was a child’s song. It is not btw. Most lines are nonsense lines.
It was published in 1848. The original lyrics are truly vile and only the first verse survived.
The song is Oh Susanna no clue how I became familiar with the song so young.
This is a really good version with James Taylor and Johnny Cash.
The wikipedia page about the song.
After reading the wiki page maybe this song should have faded away. By singing it aren’t we honoring Stephen Foster and even though the second verse is in the trash isn’t entire song tainted?
