I love that the characters are complicated. In the same episode that Bert Cooper snarked on Pete in a very satisfying way, he says something shockingly racist about Dawn to Joan.
It was a bit of a whiplash moment, but it seemed right, because Bert is literally a product of the 19th century. It's tempting to make him progressive because he's a "cool," clever character, but it's not realistic, and while I'm disappointed with Bert I'm impressed that they didn'ttake the easy way out.
