This post absolutely should be on Making, but I'm the poster for the last four Making posts, and I'm starting to feel weird about it. So, what follows is some musings about knitting, sweaters, sizing. There isn't a whole lot of rhyme or reason. But- I would really appreciate any thoughts y'all might have about ANY of the brain spew in it!!

So, anyway. I have been knitting for just over a year (and I mean just over a year. I officially picked up my very first knitting supplies on St. Patrick's day 2014.) I've gotten surprisingly good in that amount of time. I can hat! I can strand! I cable and make giant huge blankets! I know brioche- in two colors! (but not any of Nancy Marchant's beautiful crossed brioche patterns- yet) I have not yet made any clothing, but that is all changing this year.

Some of you may know that I am part of a nerdy Ravelry group: the Harry Potter Knit and Crochet House Cup. It's been an absolute boon to my crafting- I am better at finishing projects, and the projects I finish are higher quality. I finally feel confident enough in my abilities to attempt a sweater!

I have it narrowed down to two different patterns- both from Tincan Knits. All of the patterns put out by these designers are absolutely fantastic. Clean lines, classic designs I highly encourage knitters to go check their stuff out. I have decided that for one of the larger challenges in my Rav group (an OWL) I am going to make either the pullover Flax or the cardigan Harvest. I really like that they size(almost all of ) their sweaters all the way up to a 60' chest. It's hard to find cute sweater patterns in truly plus sizes So many will be tagged as "plus size knits" but the chest measurements stop at 38'. I'm a size 22/24 with large breasts and broad shoulders- 38' is NOT gonna cut it.

So, now I'm trying to decide between pullover or cardi, and also to decide if I want a solid colored sweater or one with stripes. I'm leaning heavily towards stripes, because stripes are great! I'm still trying to figure out a cute stripe pattern though, if you have any great stripe configurations you love, please post them in the comments!

Also, colors. I have been waffling between neutrals (mostly grey, black and cream) because they are simple and safe and very wearable. Or rainbow stripes separated by a neutral color.

And, I'll almost definitely be doing this sweater in acrylic because I'll need 17-1900 yards of yarn, and while I would LOVE to make it in Cascade, 220 is still 10 dollars a skein at my LYS and I just can't swing 90 dollars for a sweater.

I figure I'll be using LB Heartland, it's one of the nicest acrylics I have ever knit with; but that is almost entirely dependent on what color scheme I end up going with. If I choose the rainbow striping, I would need to switch yarns to Vanna's choice or Wool-ease, but I have never worked with either of those yarns and have no idea how they would hold up. BoyHeathen suggested Red Heart, but I'm worried about judgey Judys looking down on a Red Heart sweater. I know that I shouldn't worry- but, I do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
