I feel like focusing on MRAs as a criticism of male privilege and ignorance is like focusing on the Westboro Church for examples of religious intolerance. We don't have to look so far afield to find sexism. Does it make us feel safer so we can look at those other bad people as examples so we don't have to look at our own communities and each other (and ourselves)? Maybe I'm wrong but I feel weird about everyone externalizing criticism of men to include a small minority of extremists when sexism and the oppression of women is a much bigger deal and embedded into mainstream attitudes. I'd think it'd be much more fruitful to examine the interactions we have with people that we ally with on other matters because I think the issue of sexism is very complicated and ambiguous much of the time.
