The city we live in has three big theaters; two are first runs and one shows older movies for lower prices. We love the cheapy theatre: it’s locally owned, really reasonable (Homey and I can get tickets and snacks for around $20 on a weekend night!), and they use real butter on the popcorn.
But, of course, we don’t always want to wait a couple months to see new releases; sometimes we gotta go to the spendier theatre because we’re just too excited about a movie to wait.
But here’s the thing: the first run theatre near us recently started a policy of searching all bags, including purses, backpacks, diaper bags, etc.
I can’t for the life of me figure out why. I looked on our local news sites to see if someone brandished a weapon or something and nothing came up. So, is this just because they don’t want people sneaking in snacks or something?
I don’t know why but I have a major problem with this. I don’t even carry a purse but this seems like something that’s beyond the reach of the theatre’s rights. Like, you’re not the TSA, you’re not the police. We’re not suspects in a crime. We’re just here to see a movie.
I was really upset when we last went and I'm not sure I'll go back there. Homey seems to feel like it's not that big a deal
So, what do you think, GT? Would you have a problem with this? Do theatres in your area have similar policies?
