Full page, even! This is making my blood boil. I am not Armenian, but a large chunk of my mom’s family are descendants of Armenian refugees who experienced untold horrors (edit: linked article is the story of my mom’s cousins’ grandparents, written by one of the cousins - I am related to the Armenian ancestors only through marriage).
In the Gawker article:
A Wall Street Journal spokesperson provided the following comment:
We accept a wide range of advertisements, including those with provocative viewpoints. While we review ad copy for issues of taste, the varied and divergent views expressed belong to the advertisers.
PROVOCATIVE! Mmmm, sounds sexy. Like artistic nudes! Like politically-charged graffiti! Yeah, provocative is the word you’re looking for... /s/
I also like how ads are reviewed for taste but this one made the cut.
Some yahoo in the comments is like, “but why does it matter whether it’s called a genocide?” Things are easy when you didn’t grow up in the shadow of grief and PTSD, huh buddy?
